United States National Museum entomology exhibit in the Natural History Building, now known as the National Museum of Natural History, with J.F. Gates Clarke, entomologist with the United States Department of Agriculture, displaying a Worcester dish (Wahl period, circa 1753-1760, England) with butterfly decoration.
During his tenure with USDA, J. F. Gates Clarke was responsible for the Lepidoptera collection in the United States National Museum and was stationed in the Natural History Building.
