President John Fitzgerald Kennedy (1917-1963) (left), shaking hands with Science Service staff member Joseph H. Kraus (1898-1967) (right) during the White House visit of Science Talent Search winners. Kraus is credited with persuading Watson Davis and Science Service in 1941 to take over the local science fairs then being sponsored by the American Institute of the City of New York.
