Summary

Edwin Harold Newman (1919-2010), NBC News journalist, demonstrates the "compact belt-borne AIL [Airborne Instruments Laboratory] Radio Broadcast Microphone" that he would be wearing while covering the August 1968 political party conventions in Chicago and Miami. The system, newly developed by Cutler-Hammer's Airborne Instruments Laboratory for broadcast networks, provided wireless, portable, battery-operated two-way communication between the reporter and the network director in the booth.
