PrintThis accession consists of the facilities book for the property in Front Royal, Virginia, which eventually became the Conservation and Research Center of the National Zoological Park. The property was originally established as a United States Army Cavalry Remount Station and was transferred to the United States Department of Agriculture in 1948. The book was maintained with the property and many of the facilities still existed when the Smithsonian Institution began occupying the property in 1974. The book contains a page for each facility and other construction projects and typically includes the building number and purpose; specifications, size, and floor plan; construction beginning and completion dates; construction costs; maintenance, repair, and restoration information; a photograph; and related information.
