This accession consists of the publication, "Officially Indian: Symbols That Define the United States," by Cécile R. Ganteaume. It was published in 2017 in conjunction with the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) exhibition, "Americans," which opened at NMAI in Washington, D.C. on January 18, 2018. The publication explores the use of visual imagery of American Indians in the United States to distinguish itself from other nations and define itself as a country.
