Finding Aids to Official Records of the Smithsonian Institution Archives
Accession 18-146
National Museum of American History. Division of Engineering and Industry
Curatorial Records, 1952-1987
Descriptive Entry
This accession consists of the records of Robert M. Vogel, Curator, documenting his curatorial and professional activities in the Division of Engineering and Industry. Earlier records date back to when the division was known as the Division of Mechanical and Civil Engineering at the National Museum of American History (NMAH), and when the museum was known as the National Museum of History and Technology and the Museum of History of Technology, respectively. The records document the collecting and production of civil engineering documentary films, some of which were shown to the general public at NMAH; cataloging of the Roebling Collection at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; a survey of New England textile mills; and the history of steam engines in America. Materials include correspondence, proposals, reports, budget summaries, photographs, and supporting documentation.
