Yandell Henderson (1873-1944), authority on respiration and Director of the Laboratory of Applied Physiology, Yale University. The photo caption reads: "Prof. Yandell Henderson, energetic scientist, could not convince fellow-scientists that carbon dioxide would start breathing that had failed after drowning, gas-poisoning, or in the new-born, until the fireman, knowing nothing of theories, started saving lives with the carbon dioxide-oxygen mixture in their inhalators."
