Summary

Friedrich Hecht (1903-1980), Professor of Chemistry, University of Vienna. Caption with photograph: "Informal snapshot of Dr. Hecht of the chemistry department of the University of Vienna who directed microchemical analysis which led to determination of age of the earth. Miss Edith Krupa in his laboratory analysed sample of rock from near Winnipeg, Canada, and obtained data which Prof. Alfred C. Lane of Tufts College (chairman of Nat. Res. Council's comm. on determination of Geological Time) used to fix rock's age as 1,725,000,000 years. This is record age for North American rocks."
