Descriptive Entry
This accession consists of materials documenting the planning, development, and installation of the exhibition "Celebration: A World of Art and Ritual." This exhibition was created by the Office of Folklife Programs in conjunction with the Renwick Gallery and contained six hundred objects all chosen from the collections of nine Smithsonian Institution museums. The exhibition highlighted the celebratory rituals of sixty-two different cultures throughout the world. Some materials predate the establishment of the Office of Folklife Programs. Materials include correspondence and memoranda; brochures and pamphlets; press releases; exhibition catalogs; clippings; loan requests; objects lists; videotapes; budget files; images; oral history transcripts and other related materials.
