left to right: Major General Paul H. Streit (1891-1976), Commanding General of Walter Reed Army Medical Center; Colonel Paul S. Fancher, M.D., Chief of Medical Service, Walter Reed Army Hospital; Dr. Russell Haden (1888-1952), hematologist and medical director of the American Red Cross blood program. Haden was presenting Streit with a gavel made from the last salvageable timber from the Virginia birthplace of Walter Reed (1851-1902).
