Summary:

This accession consists of websites and blogs maintained by the Smithsonian Science Education Center (SSEC). SSEC is jointly administered by the Smithsonian Institution and the National Academies. The primary SSEC website, crawled on January 6, 2016, includes information about the organization's history, mission, programs, resources, and staff as well as science education in general. It also includes online games, links to teaching resources, and the "STEMVisions" blog. The blog, launched in 2012, was crawled separately from the website on January 6, 2016. Due to technical issues, some content is missing from this accession or does not function properly. The LASER i3 program website was crawled on January 4, 2016, shortly before it was taken down. It provides information about the grant-funded program to evaluate the effectiveness of an inquiry-based science education model (Leadership and Assistance for Science Education Reform or LASER) as well as information about the partner schools and events. In addition, the website also provides resources for professional learning communities. Due to technical issues, some content is missing from this accession or does not function properly. The SSEC Tumblr blog was crawled on June 14, 2016, and again on June 17, 2016. The blog features science education topics. The blog launched in July 2014 with several posts, but was then dormant until July 2015. The blog became inactive again in September 2015 and was taken offline shortly after this crawl. Materials are in electronic format.
