This accession consists of records that document the work of John Whittington Franklin in the Office of Interdisciplinary Studies (OIS). Franklin was a Program Specialist in OIS from 1987-1992 and as such was responsible for planning lectures, symposia, and other public programs for OIS. Franklin also served as the Chair for Asian Pacific American Heritage Committee as well as was involved with the West African Research Association and the creation of the West African Research Center. Some of the materials date from when Franklin was no longer a part of OIS and was a Program Specialist at the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. Materials include correspondence, memoranda, reports, programs, notes, invitations, brochures, newsletters, images, clippings. Some materials are in electronic format.
