This accession consists of materials compiled by the Smithsonian Photography Initiative (SPI). SPI was established in 2001 to develop a model for making Smithsonian Institution (SI) photographs more accessible and visible to the public. It collected images from SI museums and other units for use on its websites. In addition, these materials were also used in the creation of the book "At First Sight: Photography and the Smithsonian." SPI became part of the Smithsonian Institution Archives in 2009. Materials include correspondence, background information, brochures, newspaper clippings, and photographs. Some materials are in electronic format.

Descriptive Entry

This accession consists of materials compiled by the Smithsonian Photography Initiative (SPI).
