Nineteenth-century Philadelphia manufacturer and industrialist Frank P. Brown served on the Franklin Institute Committee on Science and the Arts, from 1879 to 1910, and 1933 until his death. He left funds for the Institute ś Silver Medal for invention, established in 1939.
