This accession consists of the historic photographic collection created by the National Zoological Park (NZP). Images document the zoo and its animals, staff, exhibits, facilities, and events as well as collecting trips. In some cases, paper documents were photographed to make copies. The majority of images were taken by NZP staff. Others were taken by commercial or press photographers. Some of the images have been marked up for publication and some have been mounted with text as part of a presentation or in preparation for publication. Materials include glass negatives, copy negatives, prints, postcards, microfilm, and microfiche. This accession also includes textual materials documenting the collection or compiled to help identify photographs such as indexes, an authority file, cataloging rules, a grant proposal (which also includes prints and slides), annual reports, early NZP publications, and related materials.
