Sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge the the receipt of your letter of the 1[[superscript]] st [[/superscript]], of this month, informing me that I had, that day, been elected a Corresponding Member of the Columbian Institute for the promotion of Arts and Sciences - together with a Constitutional Ordinance for the Government of the Institute.

I am, Sir, very respectfully,
