I received your note of Dec: last signifying my Election as a member of the Columbian Institute. I saw D[[superscript]] r [[/superscript]] Huntt, previous to receiving your communication, & as I told him my desyr to attend; it did not [[underlined]] then [[/underlined]] occur to me that I should also write to you. Circumstances appear hitherto to have conspired to
prevent my attendance this afternoon I had resolved to attend, unless prevented by circumstances I could not controul. but I am confined to my room by indisposition. As soon as I [[underlined]] possibly [[/underlined]] can I shall do my self the honour of attending. If it be proper I should be glad the society could be informed of these cir[[strikethrough]] cumstances. I have [[/strikethrough]]
