Accession 13-132
Golden Lion Tamarin Conservation Program
Environmental Education Program Records, 1983-2004
Descriptive Entry
This accession consists of records documenting the environmental education initiatives of the Golden Lion Tamarin Conservation Program (GLTCP). Originally administered entirely by the National Zoological Park (NZP), Department of Zoological Research, the GLTCP focused on the conservation of the golden lion tamarin in its natural habitat and was responsible for the release of captive-born golden lion tamarins into the Reserva Biológica de Poço das Antas (Brazil). In 1992, overall administration of the program was transferred to the Brazilian non-governmental organization, Associação Mico-Leão-Dourado. These records were created and maintained by Lou Ann Dietz, a Senior Program Officer for the World Wildlife Fund, a major participant in the GLTCP, until 2003 and then an independent consultant. Topics in this accession include outreach and marketing; media relations; teacher training; and children's activities. Materials include correspondence; clippings and reprints; GLTCP publications, reports, and planning documents; press releases; meeting materials; course materials; scripts for films, plays, and audio recordings; children's contest entries; proposals and agreements; brochures; maps; ephemera; and related materials. Some publications had been maintained by James M. Dietz, Research Associate, National Zoological Park.
