Descriptive Entry
This accession consists of a reference set of RIF Newsletter issued by Reading is Fundamental (RIF), Inc., which, beginning in 1968, became an independent unit under Smithsonian Institution sponsorship. The Smithsonian's Assistant Secretary for Public Service once was in charge of the RIF program, which received financial support from the Ford Foundation. RIF's purpose is to motivate disadvantaged children and adults to want to read, by making available a wide variety of interesting and relevant, inexpensive books. Materials include newsletters. Some issues are missing.
