Summary

(Left to right) Mrs. Julian James (Chairman and Originator), and Mrs. Rose Gouverneur Hoes (Secretary). The two Washington Socialites who conceived the idea of the First Ladies Hall are shown dressing the figure of Mrs. John Quincy (Louisa Catherine) Adams. The First Ladies Hall was in the Arts and Industries Building from 1912 until it moved to the Museum of History and Technology. From 1912 to 1955 the gowns were displayed in cases. After 1955 they were displayed in room settings.
