Summary

The "emerging" Abraham Lincoln is made out of marble about 1 1/2 feet high. Sculpted in the early 1920s, it is one of George Gray Barnard's most interesting works. It was purposely stopped at this point to capture Lincoln in his formative period. From a work technique standpoint the sculpture shows markings for painting up to larger size.
