Summary

The caption on this image reads, "How deep is this hole?--It's $1,560,000 deep, just for digging the hole, itself. It was dug out for the Smithsonian's new Museum of History and Technology on Constitution Avenue between 12th and 14th Streets, NW, which is scheduled for completion in December 1961. The five-story and basement building will measure 570 feet long and 301 feet wide on the ground floor. The photo was made looking northwest at the Commerce and Labor buildings.
