After teaching in the Richmond, Virginia, public schools, Marie B. Schanks Key (b. 1900) worked as a family welfare caseworker, 1928-1930, and a Washington, D.C., police officer, 1930-1944. She then became the director of minority services for Planned Parenthood, 1944-1948.
