Summary

U.S. Senator Maureen Brown Neuberger (1907-2000) won a special election in 1960 to complete the term of her late husband. Neuberger then ran and won a full term and in January 1961 become only the fourth woman to be elected to the U.S. Senate. She sponsored one of the first bills to require health warning labels on cigarette packages.
