Harvard University biologist Walter Bauer, Chairman of the Whitney FoundationÅ’s Scientific Advisory Committee; Rockefeller Institute microbiologist Rebecca Price Craighill Lancefield (1895-1981); and Rockefeller Institute biologist Macyln McCarty, 1960. Lancefield was accepting the T. Duckett Jones Memorial Award in October 1960 for her work on hemolytic streptococci. She served as president of both the Society of American Bacteriologists (1943) and American Association of Immunologists (1961) and in 1970 was elected to the National Academy of Sciences for her pioneering work on streptococci and their relation to rheumatic fever.
