Summary

Dutch scientist Peter Josef William Debye (1884-1966) was awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1936, while he was professor of experimental physics and director of the Physical Institute, University of Leipzig. He left Germany in 1940 and became a U.S. citizen in 1946. This photo was disseminated in conjunction of his receipt of the Franklin Medal in 1937.
