Shown standing on Obsidian Cliff in Yellowstone National Park, geophysicist and volcanologist Arthur Louis Day (1869-1960) taught at Yale University until 1897, worked for the U.S. Geological Survey until 1906, and then joined the Carnegie Institution, where he served as director of the Geophysical Laboratory until 1936.
