This accession consists of the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) publications, "HIDE: Skin as Material and Metaphor" and "Infinity of Nations: Art and History in the Collections of the National Museum of the American Indian." Published in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name at the George Gustav Heye Center, "HIDE: Skin as Material and Metaphor" features essays by art historians and critics that investigate the multiple layers of meaning behind the concept of skin and how this symbolism emerges in contemporary Native art. "Infinity of Nations: Art and History in the Collections of the National Museum of the American Indian" was published in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name at the George Gustav Heye Center and features essays and contributions by leading regional specialists and scholars. The essays are accompanied by more than 200 images of the most significant objects in the National Museum of the American Indian's collections.
