This accession consists of the websites of the Smithsonian Chamber Music Society. The Society, funded by the independent Friends of Music, sponsors performances by the Smithsonian Chamber Orchestra in the Hall of Musical Instruments at the National Museum of American History (NMAH) and the Grand Salon in the Renwick Gallery using instruments from the NMAH collections. Performances are in partnership with The Smithsonian Associates. In 2010, the Society's website, administered by the Friends of Music, transitioned from a website on the main Smithsonian Institution server to an externally-hosted website. The older website was crawled on August 26, 2010 and includes information about the Smithsonian Chamber Music Society, the Friends of Music, performers, discography, and educational outreach activities in conjunction with the Library of Congress. The new website was crawled on September 24, 2010 and includes, in addition to the information on the older site, news, a donation form, and information about the NMAH instrument collection. Materials are in electronic format.
