Expedition mentioned in finding aid for RU 7231
In March-April 1941 and again in June-July 1942, Waldo L. Schmitt traveled and spent time on special detail with the United States Navy investigating the possibility of establishing a biological station on the Galapagos Islands. On these trips Schmitt collected crustaceans for the United States National Museum and took water samples. The expedition crew included Captain Sherwood Picking, Captain Freddy Laing, Dr. Blanch, Land Surveyor Ralph H. Ernest, Captain Lynch, W. W. Collins, R. G. Cook, B. E. Rider, and C. P. O. Young.
