George Robert Carruthers (b. 1939) is an inventor, physicist, and space scientist who worked for U.S. Naval Research Lab, 1964, and later joined faculty of Howard University; he was named Black Engineer of the Year in 1987. The two men are looking at spectrograph designed by Carruthers.
