Botanist and geneticist Albert Francis Blakeslee (1874-1954) had begun to conduct research at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in 1915, while Charles Benedict Davenport (1866-1944) was its Director; when Davenport retired in 1934, then Blakeslee headed the laboratory. They are shown standing in one of the genetic research fields.
