Physician Joseph Tenopyr, M.D., published articles on cancer treatment in 1940s and, in 1949, was on the Brooklyn Cancer Committee; Lindsay MacLeod Black (1907-1997) was plant pathologist at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden; George Sherman Avery, Jr., (1903-1994) was Director of Brooklyn Botanic Garden; and Edwin Benedict Dooley (1905-1982) was on the Brooklyn Cancer Committee and Executive Director of New York Cancer Society. Dooley served as U.S. Representative from New York, 1956-1962.
