Summary

Consists of program records documenting the work of the Committee for a Wider Audience. Its objective was to make Smithsonian Institution programs, exhibitions, and the like less reflective of ethnocentric Western cultural assumptions and more hospitable to other cultural expressions and points of view. Earlier records date from when the Committee for a Wider Audience was under the Assistant Secretary for Public Service, the Assistant Secretary for Education and Public Service, and the Assistant Provost for Education and Cultural Programs. Materials include correspondence, budget records, meeting minutes, reports, publications, audiotapes, and clippings. Some materials are in electronic format.
