Summary

This accession consists of records related to the article, "The Origin of Biological Information and the Higher Taxonomic Categories," written by Stephen C. Meyer, that was published in the Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington (vol. 117, no. 2, pp. 213-239). In the article Meyer argues that intelligent design (ID), not evolution, is the best explanation of the origin of biological diversity. These materials document the controversy surrounding the publication of the Meyer article by former editor, Richard von Sternberg, and the response and actions of the Biological Society of Washington in the wake of its publication. Materials include correspondence, memoranda, statements, article manuscripts, clippings, and other related materials.
