This accession consists of records documenting the development, design, and execution of special exhibitions at the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH). Some records also document installations of these NMNH exhibitions at other museums or traveling exhibitions from other museums that were installed at NMNH. Exhibitions documented in this accession include "Beyond the Java Sea: Art of Indonesia's Outer Islands;" "Eyes on Science: Illustrating Natural History;" "Natural Selections, Museum Photography by Chip Clark;" "Ainu: Spirit of a Northern People;" "Buccellati: Art in Gold, Silver, and Gems;" "Vikings: The North Atlantic Saga;" "Caves: A Fragile Wilderness;" "Landscape Kimonos;" "Spiders!;" "Amber: Window to the Past;" "Ocean Planet;" "Global Warming: Understanding the Forecast;" "Margaret Mee: Return to the Amazon;" "Feather Focus;" "Volcano Watch: Maurice and Katia Krafft and the Smithsonian;" "Mysterious Manatees;" "Royal Tombs of Sipan;" "Inside Active Volcanoes: Kilauea and Mount St. Helens;" "Crossroads of Continents: Cultures of Siberia and Alaska;" "Agayuliyararput (Our Way of Making Prayer): The Living Tradition of Yup'ik Masks;" and "Voyages of Discovery." Materials include scripts, installation images, images used in the exhibitions, educational materials, graphics packages, press releases, media books, object lists, condition reports, installation instruction manuals, label copy, floor plans, a grant proposal for "Spiders!," concept sketches, technical drawings, a visitor log, brochures, clippings, schedules, and related materials. Some materials are in electronic format. Materials also include some rights information, particularly music rights, for videos accompanying "Spiders!."
