This accession consists of radiographs and related medical records for dead and shipped animals attended by National Zoological Park (NZP) veterinary staff. Many of these files are not associated with an animal accession number and may pertain to groups of animals, unidentified animals, or unaccessioned animals. Some files were received by NZP staff from other institutions for research or reference purposes. The bulk of the files are divided into mammals (accession numbers beginning with "1"), birds (accession numbers beginning with "2"), and reptiles (accession numbers beginning with "3") and are arranged by accession number thereunder. A few files appear to be misclassified, but were filed based on their accession number. There are several groupings of records that were filed separately from the bulk of the records and were not arranged in any way, including a small group at the beginning of the records, several large piles on the floor and on top of the shelving units, and an additional shelving unit in another office. Some of these files appear to have been removed from the main group of records and never refiled. Many of the folders appear to correspond to folders elsewhere in the files. The last group of records in this accession consists of "outside" animals, primarily animals from Rock Creek Park which were examined by NZP staff, and are arranged numerically. Materials primarily consist of radiographs, but some files also include radiology reports, post-mortem reports, printed x-rays, and related materials.
