Summary

This accession includes a manuscript by naturalist John C. Pohl, bound in 1949. The title page calls the manuscript "Story of the John Calvert Museum in England - Brought to Fifth Avenue, New York." but the title on the binding is "Collections I Have Seen." John Calvert was a collector, mineralogist, and malacologist. Towards the end of the bound volume, there is a section titled "Life and Activity of Dr. William H. Jones, U.S.A. Naval Surgeon - Residence 131 Wall Street, Bethlehem, PA., U.S.S. Portsmouth, 3 Rate, Employed on the Survey of the Pacific, 1873-May 7, also his trip to Peru" which appears to be unrelated to the beginning of the volume. Jones collected medical instruments, figurines, and natural history specimens from throughout the world. The majority of the manuscript is typewritten, but it also includes some handwritten pages. Black and white photographs and mechanically produced copies of drawings and published materials are adhered to some pages.
