This accession consists of records which document the administration of the Archives of American Art (AAA) during the tenures of Edgar Preston Richardson, 1954-1964; William E. Woolfenden, 1964-1983; Richard N. Murray, 1983-1988; John A. Fleckner (Acting Director), 1987-1988; Susan A. Hamilton (Acting Director), 1988-1990; and Richard J. Wattenmaker, 1990-2005. Materials include correspondence, memoranda, and notes pertaining to oral history grants, tours, special projects, membership, AAA restructuring, collection policy, exhibitions, fundraising, publicity, travel, symposiums, donations, loans, advisory committee meetings, publications, storage issues, and the closing of regional offices. The records also include reports, agreements, meeting minutes, copyright information, articles, statistics, and budget summaries.
