This accession consists of materials which document the activities and the administration of the Smithsonian American Art Museum under the tenures of Deputy Directors Charles J. Robertson (1986-2001) and Rachel M. Allen (2002- ). Some materials date to when the museum was known as the National Museum of American Art. Materials include correspondence and memoranda, information files, reports, notes, and other administrative records detailing the Museum's relations amongst departments, within the Smithsonian, and with non-Smithsonian organizations.
