This accession consists of records that document the administrative affairs of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Museums. The title of this office changed to the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Arts and Humanities in April 1992. Materials include mostly the correspondence of Tom L. Freudenheim, presently the Assistant Secretary for Arts and Humanities, but formerly when Assistant Secretary for Museums from 1986 to 1991. Also included is information pertaining to educational outreach programs; museum facility services; reception planning; scholarly research projects; personnel and affirmative action; Smithsonian Board of Regents meetings; foreign travel and conferences; budgetary appropriations for Smithsonian museums; exhibition funding, particularly regarding the 1989 French Revolution Bicentennial Exhibition; blueprints and drawings; 1987 Kellogg Project; National Bonsai Foundation; cassette recordings; and brochures.
