Exhibition Records, 1989-1992
Descriptive Entry
These records consist of files from the Department of Design and Production, National Portrait Gallery (NPG). Included are correspondence between the NPG curatorial staff and other Smithsonian bureaus and offices. There is also correspondence between the NPG staff and other external art museums, including individual artists and art experts regarding borrowing photographs and prints. A majority of the memoranda and notes concern inter-departmental efforts to plan, design and exhibit various shows in the museum.
Other records include exhibition prospectus forms, records pertaining to exhibitions and planned and projects and contracts; work and purchase orders; project submittal requests; expenditure lists; exhibition captions and checklists; transparencies; budget proposals; acquisition lists; exhibition production sketches and production; and requisitions for services. Interspersing the records are correspondence and memoranda between Chiefs of various divisions and the NPG Director, Alan Fern, between the public and the Director, and between the donors and Museum's Registrar, Suzanne C. Jenkins.
Also interfusing the records are memoranda and notes among the Department's Chief, Nello R. Marconi, the Production Manager Stephen di Girolamo, exhibitions curator, Beverly J. Cox and curator of prints, Wendy Wick Reaves. Included among the records are pamphlets, exhibition floor plans, drawings and sketches, samples of carpets and paper, prints and photographs.
