Historical Note
James Ray Zimbelman (1954- ) received his PhD in 1984 in geology from Arizona State University. He spent 1984-1986 at the Lunar and Planetary Institute in Houston, Texas, and 1986-1987 as a lecturer at the University of Houston, Clear Lake, before joining the staff of the Smithsonian.
Descriptive Entry
These records consist of files of geologist James R. Zimbelman primarily documenting his work at the Center for Earth and Planetary Studies. The records include notes and figures for his talks and papers, correspondence with colleagues, brochures and other material associated with professional conferences, files documenting his work with the Mars Geologic Mappers, computer material concerning mapping of Mars, and records relating to publications. Some material predates his arrival at the National Air and Space Museum (NASM).
