Spofford, Walter Richardson
Walter Richardson Spofford Papers, circa 1958-1968
Walter R. Spofford (1908-1995) was a neuroanatomist and a member of the medical faculties at Cornell University, Vanderbilt University, and the State University of New York at Syracuse. He was also interested in raptorial birds and conducted early experiments in biochemical taxonomy, the forerunner of studies on DNA fingerprinting.
These papers document Spofford's research on the biochemical taxonomy of raptorial birds and include correspondence, laboratory notebooks, and note cards containing data from the analysis of the electrophoresis of egg-white proteins in birds.
