These records consist of 2 published reports, "Smithsonian Services to the Nation." The reports document the various ways the Smithsonian Institution interacted with communities across the United States. The first edition of the report, published in 1991, covered the Institution's outreach during the years between 1988 and 1992. The second edition covered the period from 1992 through 1996. The purpose of the reports was to provide the basis for a more persuasive message for support to potential donors in communities throughout the U.S.; to highlight the specific regions that the Smithsonian Institution successfully reaches; and to show areas of opportunity.
