Finding Aids to Official Records of the Smithsonian Institution Archives
Smithsonian Institution. Traveling Exhibition Service. Exhibition Department
Committee Records, 1988-1999
This accession consists of records that document the activities of three Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) committees: the Exhibition Review Committee, the Exhibition Ideas Committee, and the Management Committee.
The Exhibition Review Committee examines proposed exhibitions. The Committee issues a call for proposals, reviews the proposal submissions against a standard criteria, and either accepts or rejects the proposed exhibition.
The Management Committee is a SITES-wide effort to share information and develop effective administrative management strategies for the office as a whole.
The Exhibition Ideas Committee discusses and shares information about possible ideas for SITES exhibitions from within SITES by outside organizations or individuals. Notes indicate that the exchange is very preliminary in scope. This Committee makes no formal call for proposals or reviews. The Exhibition Review Committee fulfills that function.
Materials include proposals, agendas, notes, minutes, reference materials, brochures, clippings, booklets, slides, posters, photographs, correspondence, memoranda, and related records.
