  • In 1976 the Office of the Attorney General, State of New York, was involved in an investigation of the operations of the Museum of the American Indian, Heye Foundation, a private foundation created by the late George Gustav Heye. As part of that effort a staff person was hired to collaborate with the State's auditors in setting up a finance office for the Museum. The aim of the office was to create and administer financial controls for the Museum's funds. The office continued in existence when the Museum of the American Indian became, by a 1989 Act of Congress, the National Museum of the American Indian. In or around 2009 the office was renamed the Office of Administration and Finance. It reports to the Office of the Director, George Gustave Heye Center. Due to a museum reorganization it appears that the office was abolished in or around 2016. The first and only head of the office was Tamara R. Levine, serving 1976-circa 2016.
