  • While the National Museum of the American Indian maintained a public affairs program from its inception, the first position specifically identified with those responsibilities appeared in 1996. It seems to have reported to the Office of Public Programs and Community Services. By 1999 the office reported to the Office of External Affairs and National Campaign. By 2002 the office reported to the Office of External Affairs and Development. Elizabeth Hill served as Director of Public Affairs, 1996. Tom Sweeney served as Director of Public Affairs, 1999- .
