- Smithsonian Local Notes, called simply Local Notes until 1924, was a biweekly publication intended to acquaint members of the Smithsonian staff each other's work and with various Smithsonian events. Topics ranged from information on accessions and expeditions to notices of social events and war bond drives. It seems likely that the idea for such a publication began with Secretary Charles D. Walcott, and was for some years produced by the Office of the Chief Clerk. At some point that job passed to the Smithsonian's Editor, Webster Prentiss True. The publication was suspended as an economic measure in 1933 and never resumed.
