  • The Office of Development was officially created in 1990 with the appointment of Laurel A. Muro as Head, Development. She served in this capacity until 1995, when Barbara Phillips took over the position. In about 2000, it was renamed the Office of Membership and Development, and Phillips became Head, Membership and Development. Starting in 2005 Jay Kaveeshwar was Head of the office and served until 2011. From 2016-2017, Laura Willumsen served as the Acting Director of Advancement. In 2017, Elisa Glazer was appointed Chief Advancement Officer and served until 2019. Elizabeth Brown served as Acting Chief Advancement Officer until 2021, when Patricia Winterton, was appointed the Chief Advancement Officer. At some point after 2000, the office was renamed the Office of Advancement. The Office of Advancement reports to the Office of the Director.
  • The Office of Advancement is responsible for membership and development at the Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery. In addition, the Special Events Coordinator works closely with the Office of Advancement and reports to it.
